Handsaws can be found in almost every workshop or shed and the market is saturated with different brands, all vying for your hard-earned dollar.
As with any tool, a saw is not just a saw. From major differences relevant to their specific purpose, to more subtle differences that can have a greater bearing on the cost.
Thomas Flinn & Co. is the oldest remaining hand saw manufacturer in Sheffield, England and continues to carry on the great tradition of Sheffield saws. Their Pax saws are some of the oldest saws still in production and can be found in tool museums in the UK, with origins dating back to the 18th Century!
All Pax saws are high quality and can be re-sharpened (not applicable to some of the very small toothed, small saws such as Razor Saw) so much of the decision on what saw to purchase comes down to application, personal preference and budget.
The Pax Handsaws have the following key features: (available as Rip, Handsaw and Panel Saw)
- Two Tone Traditional Beech Handles with gold leaf embellishment

The PAX range includes many traditional style saws such as Panel, Dovetail and Tenon saws that feature the beautiful and traditional hardwood Beech, for handles. This timber has a long-established history as the hardwood of choice in tool manufacture, for both its properties and contrasting beauty. Other small and more specialised Pax saws such as the Veneer Saw or Guitar Makers Fret saw feature the warmer tone of Walnut handles.
As craftsmen, we receive the greatest satisfaction and results from working with the finest tools, taking pride in producing the finest finished items without the compromises inherent in mass production.
