This unit represents Carbatec's Premium Top-of-the-Range Electronic Variable Speed Floor Model Woodlathe.
This is one seriously solid machine! Made of over-sized cast iron all round, this unit weighs in at 166kg of solid vibration absorbing mass! Just check out those chunky legs - we suggest a two-person lift for each of those! The result? A very stable and smooth turning experience. Note that this is over 30kg in additional mass over other similar products, making for the most stable, precision experience possible.
Of course, mass in itself does not necessarily make an excellent lathe, no. So we ensured it was well-appointed throughout with optional upgrades wherever possible. But let's start with the impressive basics - that is, this unit offers a 408mm (16") swing over the bed, along with a true 560mm (22") between centres. This combination is likely to cover eveything you ever intend to put through a lathe, but a bed extension is available should you find yourself craving a longer project!
A lathe of this standard deserves the best power it can get, which is why we elected to use the 2HP Alloy Finned Induction Motor, coupled with a Delta VFD (Variable Frequency Drive/Invertor) to control your variable speed. Like the Top-of-the-range Carbatec Midi Lathe, this setup is the best way to ensure exceptional torque graphs throughout the variable speed range. This machine will not leave you wanting for power to turn! Further, this setup with the sheer bulk provides one of the most quiet and stable turns we've seen in a lathe!
Speaking of controlling your variable speed, we made use of a magnetic control box so all of your control, that is forward and reverse, speed control, start and locking stop - are always at your fingertips, irrespective of where you are working on the lathe! This is especially useful as this lathe features a swivel head and comes with a secondary banjo arm to allow for outboard turning. In fact, an optional outboard turning kit is available which will allow an enormous 28" bowl capacity - should that take your fancy.
A 152mm (6") Faceplate is mounted to the standard 1-1/4" x 8TPI Spindle and has MT2 tapers. The four spur drive centre is included and we upgraded the live centre to a deluxe high end live centre featuring fully sealed beaings with a grease nipple! The tool rest is 300mm or 12" in length, but is also upgraded to a welded hardened steel round bar edge providing trouble-free travel for your tool. Finally, this lathe features 36 indexing positions and a self-ejecting tailstock.
