This new range of Maneater semi-permanent moulds wont warp or crack and will take more abuse than traditional silicone moulds. They are milled from blocks of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) making them solid and tough. Demolding is easy! Just pull the suction plugs, turn the mould upside down, rap the ends a few times on your work bench and watch the blanks fall out.
This model has overall dimensions of 7.3125" x 6.70" x 2.00" (18.57 x 17.02 x 5.08 cm) with one casting chamber measuring 5.25" x 5.00" x 1.21875" (13.34 x 12.70 x 3.10 cm). Up to five pen blanks can be cut from the block and they can easily be end trimmed and squared up on a table saw, if so desired.
Important Notes:
A release agent must be used due to the rigidity of the moulds. Simply apply the release agent into the chambers, ensuring complete coverage. Allow to dry before pouring your resin. Also apply a release agent on the rubber plugs to keep them free of any resin build-up caused by potential spillage.
A rubberized dead blow hammer will help the demold process greatly. Lightly rap the bottom and sides of the mould once your blanks have fully cured, then turn the mould over and lightly rap the mould ends against your work bench top to see your blanks release. Based on personal experience, Alumilite and polyester resin blanks will release with little effort at all. Epoxy blanks may require a few extra raps or a blast of air from a rubberized nozzle before releasing.
