Searching for a solution that makes fast, precise work of trimming legs evenly?
Based on the old workshop "tabling" trick, Veritas has manufactured a marking guide that is designed to produce the refined and accurate results required when trimming legs on a chair or table.
To begin, you start by shimming the short legs so the work sits stably on a saw table or other flat surface. The tool's hardened steel scribing point rotates on an eccentric barrel within the aluminium body, adjusting its height in a range from 1.8mm (0.07") to 16mm (0.66"). With the point set higher than the tallest shim, you simply run the tool around each leg, marking all four at a consistent offset from the reference surface. Cutting to the line results in four legs trimmed uniformly to the correct length and angle, so they all sit perfectly flush, making even contact with the floor.
An elegant and reliable solution for any professional furniture maker, hobbyist or DIYer.
